Tips On Buying Used Scuba Diving Gear

Scuba diving is a wonderful sport. There is a whole world to explore beneath the water, but being properly outfitted is an expensive venture. Scuba diving can be cost prohibitive for some people to pursue, but there are options to buying all brand new scuba equipment and it's worth your time to investigate them.

For the serious hobbyist, all necessary scuba gear will cost around $4000 or more. Most of this is not optional; it is not wise to scrimp on safety in the water. Necessary equipment can be found at many sports stores and stores specializing in water sports. Spend time looking around; you will need to see what's recommended, what's available and how much items cost. This information will help you make educated choices in the used market.

If you learn where to look, used scuba gear is available in abundance. For many reasons, people choose or are forced to quit diving, leaving used (or barely used) and costly equipment taking up space in their closets or garages. It makes sense for them to try to unload their gear and for you to give purchasing it serious consideration.

Be sure to check out local want ads for scuba gear. Ebay and other Internet sites are a treasure chest full of things you will need to enjoy your sport and at far more reasonable prices. Use what you learned exploring brand new gear and apply it to your used-item shopping, making sure things are in good condition, safety-features intact and at a reasonable value.

As you continue to enjoy scuba diving, you will need to replace equipment. At that point, it might make sense for you to purchase new equipment to replace your old one. You will know that you are dedicated to the sport and will have a good understanding of features and any unique needs you may have. Of course, the advantage is that you will not need to buy everything, all at once.

The Red Sea in Egypt for Scuba Diving

For many Europeans, traveling to the Red Sea for scuba diving is like many North Americans going to the Caribbean. For a scuba diver based in North America or anywhere else outside of Europe or Africa, a journey to the Red Sea is considered one of the more exotic scuba diving trips. Like other overseas travel, getting to the final destination is the hardest thing. The Red Sea can be dived from ports in both Egypt and Israel but most international scuba divers do so from the Egyptian side. There are two major scuba diving areas in Egypt, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. Sharm El Sheikh at the northern part of the Red Sea is the more established center having been a popular vacation resort area as both Egyptians and Europeans have been vacationing here for many years. The local scuba dive industry grew along with the overall steady growth of classy resorts, shops and other tourist services in Sharm El Sheikh. Hurghada, once just a sleepy fishing village along the west side of the Red Sea, is starting to grow as scuba divers discover this alternative to Sharm El Sheikh.

More than likely, travelers going to either Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada will have to fly to Cairo before connecting with Egypt Air or taking a bus to their final destination. Many scuba divers turn their Red Sea diving trip into a major extended holiday in order to both dive and see the many wonderful ancient Egyptian sites such as the pyramids. There are many things to see and do in Egypt in addition to the ancient ruins including museums, markets and Nile river cruises. So it is highly recommended to do some research and plan accordingly for any trip to Egypt as one would not want to run into the situation where not enough time was allocated to see everything one wants to see there in addition to scuba diving.

Many of the scuba operators in Sharm El Sheikh are affiliated or close by to a hotel resort. Most of the dive shops are actually owned and staffed by Europeans working in Egypt. This is similar to the situation in the Caribbean where many of the scuba operators there are American owned. The Red Sea has a higher salt content than Caribbean waters so it is recommended to add 4 to 5 more pounds to the amount of weight divers usually use. Like most European diving, the scuba community here in Egypt uses the metric system so weights will be in kilos while air pressure will be in bars. Most dive computers should be able to display both metric and imperial systems.

Many scuba operators in Sharm El Sheikh use a very interesting system for scuba tanks. Rather than using their own tanks, their dive boats go to a common central barge anchored in the harbor. This is where all the scuba tanks are supplied from and the dive boats collect the number of tanks they need for day's dive trips. At the end of the trips, used tanks are dropped off at the same barge before heading back to port.

The majority of the dives in the Red Sea are semi drift dives where the dive boats drop off divers at the dive sites and then pick them up afterwards. One very different aspect of the Red Sea compared to other dive destinations in the world is that the coral reefs here can extend up to very shallow depths. As a result, the standard safety stops at 15 feet are done drifting among many of these sloping reefs along with the accompanying marine life. Therefore, these are some of the most scenic safety stops scuba divers will ever do. This is certainly different from the usual bland safety stop in the Caribbean. One thing to note is that the maximum allowable depth for recreational scuba divers in Egypt is 30 meters which is about 90 feet.

As expected, the marine life in the Red Sea is spectacular. There are many species of fish, crustaceans and marine plant life here that are not found in the Caribbean. In fact, many of them are indigenous to the Red Sea only. While lionfish can be extremely rare sightings elsewhere, they are quite abundant in the Red Sea which is a real treat for scuba divers. It is also not unusual to jump in the water to be among a large school of tuna or other fish. Many night divers will see coral reefs here to be more spectacular than in the Caribbean.

For many scuba divers, the Red Sea is one of those 'must dive at least once in a lifetime' destinations. It is a very unique place to dive especially with the desert background visible from the dive boats. The excellent diving with the many awesome sights of Egypt make the Red Sea a dream dive trip for any scuba diver.

Scuba Diving Training

Scuba diving has gained recognition in recent times as a passion has developed in the hearts of many people for the sport. Scuba diving has gained popularity and is now accepted as a profession. Scuba diving is a sport that needs to be mastered well. As this is an underwater sport, divers have to learn to use the equipment and have to be comfortable underwater. Hence, dive training plays a very important role in educating divers about the various skills and techniques of diving. There are many schools that provide training to teach students can learn the art. If proper training is not acquired, scuba diving can prove to be harmful. There are many dive-training schools and organizations throughout the world that offer certified courses to students. As the profession of scuba diving is renowned worldwide, the schools that provide certified training are recognized internationally. As this certification is accepted throughout the world, students do not face a lot of difficulty in getting jobs.

Scuba diving training schools train in different environments. The first stage of training takes place in the classroom, where students are presented with materials that are then reviewed. The second step of training is done in a pool, where e students learn and practice the various skills necessary. This training takes place underwater. The last stage of the training consists of open water where students demonstrate the skills they have learned. Generally, open water training takes place in a local body of water such as lakes, ponds, or the sea. These are the initial stages of training. Schools also teach students about underwater equipment and how to use it efficiently. There are many other scuba diving training institutes that offer advanced courses. Apart from the courses that are generally offered, there are many other courses that are available online. These training courses cater to students who cannot afford to pay to go to a regular school.

Choosing a good dive training organization is solely at the discretion of a student. If people want to consider scuba diving as a full time profession, these organizations offer the expertise to do so.

Scuba Rocks - Hot Tips And Essential Information To Know About Scuba Diving For Beginners

Scuba diving is great fun, but it's not something that can be mastered in one lesson. There are also five important rules that you need to think about if you're planning to start scuba diving. The who, what, when, where and why of scuba diving!

Who?

Scuba diving can be enjoyed by almost anyone. Both men and women can scuba dive, and even children can as well, although you need to be sure that they're old enough to understand the rules and concepts of scuba diving. Some people with health issues are better off giving scuba diving a miss. It's also better to miss out on scuba diving if you have a head cold on the day of your dive.

What?

It's easy to think that scuba diving is just about going underwater and enjoying the fish. For most people who scuba dive on an ongoing basis, there's a lot more to it than that. Many simply enjoy the challenge of practicing their scuba diving skills, while others take it up as a career. Either way, scuba diving can be loads of fun.

When?

You can dive at any time of the year, but you may need to be prepared if the conditions are cold. Many people dive using dry suits during the winter months, which do a much better job of keeping you warm than a wet suit does. There are specific courses you can do it prepare for diving in cold water. If you'd rather give cold water a miss in winter, take a holiday to somewhere warm or tropical, and scuba dive there instead!

Where?

You can scuba dive in most places where the water is sufficiently deep. So you can choose from the ocean, lakes, mines, rivers, caves and anywhere else appropriate. It the water is too shallow you might as well just snorkel around and save yourself the hassle of lugging all your scuba diving equipment around. If you're unfamiliar with a body of water, ask locally if there are any hazards you need to be aware of.

Why?

Once you've tried scuba diving, you probably won't need anyone else to answer this question for you. Some people simply enjoy the sport and continue diving. Others have professional reasons for continuing to scuba dive. Many others simply enjoy the opportunity it gives them to explore a world few other people get to see.

Should I Bring My Quadriplegic Teenaged Son To A Bahamas Scuba Diving Holiday?

Scuba Diving For All

The pleasures of scuba diving or snorkeling should not be limited to people who are physically fit. This experience should also be shared with those who have undergone great physical and emotional strain. A crippled child who is always confined to a wheelchair misses so much in life. Including them into the Bahamas scuba diving holiday will do wonders to their self esteem.

Families with physically challenged members joining them in their Bahamas scuba diving escapade are faced with several uncertainties. This dilemma has been resolved when all establishments including diving tour operators were mandated by law to make everything accessible to the handicapped.

Fortunately more and more diving outfits, not only the Bahamas scuba diving operators, that are incorporating into their operations the specialized service for the physically disabled. They have designed, and installed ramp wide enough for a wheelchair. For underwater activities like diving or snorkeling, there is no need to handle paraplegics from the water and back to the deck. Specially designed manlifts do the job.

Freedom

Providing the physically challenged opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving help them re-adjust to the mainstream as well, enjoy a different but exhilarating experience. Parents need not worry about the possible dangers that may befall on their child during their holiday in the Bahamas. Diving experts who serve as buddy divers lead the novices into the water.

The integration of scuba diving as a recreational as well as educational activity for the differently abled, is now gaining wide acceptance world-wide. World class diving facilities are incorporating activities and structures that would help the physically challenged. This development has added to the many services provided by scuba diving operators.

Getting to the boat from the dock is easy for all. A ramp is added enough to accommodate a wheelchair. To get into the water, a manlift will help the guest get into the water and back to the deck. Physical exertion help children or adults eliminated.

Health Benefits Plus

The expert diver, who serves as the buddy is trained to interact, and handle people with different needs. They have modified scuba diving courses for this specialization. Factors like inability to communicate, and buoyancy are considered in scuba diving for the physically challenged.

Scuba diving for your teenaged son has many benefits. Physical exertion on his part will improve his muscle tone, and strengthen his heart muscles as well. What counts most is the freedom he will enjoy underwater. He can take scuba diving lessons during your Bahamas scuba diving holiday. He can also be a certified diver if he has the determination as well as the inclination.

So bring along your son to his first Bahamas scuba diving holiday. It will be the most satisfying experience of his lifetime. This would be the best gift you can give him. Get him the right gear from wet suit, to life bottles. So pack your bags and jet to the Bahamas. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and windsurfing await you all.

Scuba Diving Certification - What You Need to Do Before You Go Looking For Nemo

So you are thinking about getting your scuba diving certification but aren't sure what it entails? We'll go through the details here. Scuba diving is a wonderful sport and you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come. There's nothing like floating effortlessly underwater and seeing all the beautiful fish, coral, wrecks, etc. Certification will open up a whole new world for you.

First, let's start with the basics. What exactly is scuba diving certification?

In order to go scuba diving with any reputable dive shop, you must have a certification card (more commonly known as a c-card). You obtain this card by taking and passing a dive certification course. Once you pass this course, you receive your c-card and you are good to go.

The two main certification agencies are PADI and NAUI. Other agencies, such as YMCA and SSI, also offer scuba diving certification but NAUI and PADI are the most widely recognized.

The dive shop (or other entity) that you take your training from will be affiliated with one of these agencies. That is who you will receive your card from.

The most common scuba diving certification for recreational divers is the open water diver. Once you finish this course and pass the tests and dives, you receive your c-card. Once you receive your card, you are certified for life. There is no other mandatory training. There is other optional training you can do, but nothing more is required before you can start diving.

What are the requirements for taking a certification course?

As far as age goes, for PADI you must be 10 or older to take the course. Students younger than 15 will receive the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification. It can then be upgraded to PADI Open Water Diver certification upon reaching 15. For Naui, you must be 12 or older to take the course.

Basically you should be in good physical shape and be comfortable in the water. A clearance from your doctor would be a good idea if you have any doubts.

During the course you will have to be able to swim 200 yards. However, you can use any stroke and there is no time limit on how long it takes. You also have to tread water or float for 10 minutes. Again, you can use any methods you want.

The course itself can be broken into 4 major segments:

1. Book work

2. Exams

3. Pool training

4. Open water dives

The amount of time it takes to get our scuba diving certification depends on what avenue you take. There are intensive weekend courses where you can do all your book work and pool work in one weekend. This option usually involves advance reading. I think this could be a bit overwhelming if you have no prior experience but many people opt for this route.

At the opposite end are the options where you meet over the course of several weeks to do your book and pool work. This is the option I chose. The class met once a week for 6 weeks. The first part of the night involved the classroom (about 1 1/4 hours) followed by pool work (about 1 1/2 hours).

A recent introduction are the on-line certification courses which allows you to do the book portion of your scuba diving certification from anywhere.

You get a referral to do your open water dives after you successfully complete the book and pool work. Your open water dives are usually done in a lake, quarry or ocean. You typically do these dives over the course of 2 days. Certification usually requires 4 or 5 successful open water dives. You also have to do your open water dives within a certain amount of time of receiving your referral.

During your open water dives, you will perform the skills you learned in class for the instructor. This involves such skills as clearing your mask, buddy breathing, etc. Once you successfully pass the open water dives, you will receive your c-card.

As far as the cost of certification, prices for the course and pool work portion can range anywhere from around $150 to several hundred. I think $200-$250 is probably about average. If you take book portion online through PADI, the course currently costs $120 (you still have to pay for your in water training and open water dive portions).

Adding in the cost of your open water dives, the total cost of dive certification will probably be about $350-$450.

Hopefully I have answered most of your questions about getting certified. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

Career In Scuba Diving: Your Future Being A Dive Instructor

Scuba Divers are made of many people that are tired of the usual tedious workday, followed by the nerve-racking task of driving; add all the noise pollution it instigates. That's before everything else scuba divers encounter in these fast paced times outside of scuba diving.

Some scuba divers go even further by finding a career in scuba diving. Some become diving instructors themselves. They find their career in scuba diving rejuvenating compared to many other choices.

Scuba diving doesn't usually start there though. It usually starts where many other's scuba diving began; with the open water course. Then they move onto the advanced course and learn much more and realize they really enjoy all that scuba diving has to offer. They see diving underwater in a whole new way, and really want to share that with others as well. Often this leads them to work towards a career in scuba diving instruction.

It's not all simple courses and then going to work with your new career in scuba diving. You need to be a master at it. This of course means a lot of diving time in a variety of situations and an instructor or more. You need to know how to dive and survive well. With that, as a scuba diving instructor you will be able to bring others up to scuba diving. You need to know what they have to, to dive safely. This is quite a worthy career!

Many look up to the diving instructor assuming they know it all about scuba diving. Since the potential to inspire them can be great or potentially heartbreaking, you really do need to know anything they need to know, and more! When you don't, you need to admit that as well! If your journey is endlessly learning more when diving in many situations, you should seriously consider a career in scuba diving as an instructor.

Though also consider that you need to deal with people, and follow timelines. You need to be able to teach your students in a short time, how to remain safe and alive when scuba diving. This is quite a responsibility. If you feel this is for you, it's time we look further towards your career in scuba diving instruction.

To become a diving instructor you must first be a Dive master. With that out of the way, then you have to take the Instructor Development Course (PADI IDC). This extensive course will take you deeper into diving than you have been. It will educate you on diving standards, safety, students, the PADI system, and relevant law. To be all you can be you will definitely want to master every bit of it. That way when you begin your career in scuba diving instruction, you will be well versed from the start. Of course beyond that, experience will follow that will truly make you a complete export in your craft.

As with anything these days, while working on your career in scuba diving, you can expect much product marketing information, as well as sales literature too. While it's not wise to buy everything, you should understand the market, as it does affect your students as well.

Taking the Plunge - Learning to Scuba Dive

Personally I blame Jacques Cousteau. Ever since watching his programs on undersea exploration during the late 60s and 70s (when I was at an impressionable age) I have had the urge to learn to scuba dive. It's been sitting there in the back of my mind for nearly 40 years and finally I am doing something about it.

Nowadays, although scuba (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus) diving is still classed as an extreme sport by most holiday insurance companies, scuba diving has very much come of age and is a well regulated and popular international hobby.

I think the itch to finally do something about learning to scuba dive really started playing up again a couple of years ago when I was on holiday in the Canaries. Outside a couple of the hotels there were big rectangular flags sporting wavy blue lines and the letters PADI. This is the acronym for the professional Association of Diving Instructors and seems to be the main international body that provides training and certification in diving skills.

Their 'Open Water Diver' course and level of qualification seems to be the basic qualification that is required if you want to be able to hire scuba gear while on holiday, as most diving suppliers will only let you rent gear if you have this level of training and certification.

Getting the qualification involves three phases of activity. Firstly there is the book/classroom type learning covering basics of diving and understanding scuba gear. The second stage is in-water exercises in a confined and safe environment, usually a pool. These involve getting familiar with the equipment and developing the practical skills to deal with a variety of emergency situations (like retrieving your mouthpiece and clearing you mask). The third phase is actual diving under supervision, in which you get to take to the open water to experience diving under the supervision of an instructor who is also rating you to see whether or not you can be certified as able to dive without this level of close supervision.

The beauty of these courses is that they can be split across different venues. The book learning is probably the most accessible component, particularly since PADI now do an online course that you can subscribe to. Alternatively you could do this part of the course with a local dive school. For example, in West London (where I live) there are a variety of dive schools, some with specialized deep-water pools, which offer full PADI open water diver certification courses. These courses cover all three of the learning stages outlined above and it seems to make sense to do at least the first two, the academic and pool-based learning locally. This will allow me to benefit from the convenience of scheduling in the training when it suits me without wasting part of my holiday on it. The third phase, the open water diving, can also be done through these schools but PADI runs an international credit transfer system where you can do different parts of the training in different places. This means I can do my book learning and pool dives locally and then book up for the open water part at one of the dive schools while I am on holiday. So I get to complete my training in the beautiful tropical waters where I actually want to dive.

This is the plan but before I do anything further, it's worth checking that I really am happy with the practice rather than just the idea of scuba diving. Apart from signing up for the full PADI course, most dive schools also offer brief scuba diving 'taster' sessions. These sessions give you the chance to try out scuba gear and get the experience of being under water (and finding out if you like it) before committing to a proper course of study. What's more, any time spent in the water and skills learnt are also transferrable credits that count towards getting my open water diver certification if, after experiencing the taster session, I decide I really do want to turn my dream into reality.

It's always a little scary pursuing something that you've quietly wanted to do for years but I think it's finally time to take the plunge, so to speak.

Apart from hoping he's not getting out of his depth with this scuba diving stuff, Richard Atkins is a former lecturer, computer programmer and nowadays an occasional writer. If you are interested in trying out scuba diving, you can book everything from taster sessions through to shark diving experiences at FindExperienceDays.com.

Preparing For Scuba With Scuba Diving Lessons

In today's world, where ordinary citizens and adrenalin-junkies alike are equally capable of chasing adventure, we turn to lessons to make sure we have the appropriate skills. We have lessons for golf, tennis, dance, and any other activity or hobby that can summoned to mind. But for those activities that come with risk, lessons become even more important. Subsequently, those who are interested in scuba diving should always begin with comprehensive scuba diving lessons.

If you are in good health, you can scuba dive. And with proper scuba diving lessons you can do so safely to ensure you get the most enjoyment out of your experience as possible. Finding scuba diving lessons is relatively easy, as scuba diving continues to rise in popularity. Luckily, the availability of lessons does not in any way depend on your proximity to the ocean. Scuba diving lessons are taught in indoor pools which gives the instructor maximum control and eliminates the variables that can easily arise in open water. For students, scuba diving lessons should be confidence building and the best way to achieve this confidence is by mastering your technique in a confined and controlled environment.

In most cases, however, scuba diving lessons actually begin with comprehensive classroom instruction where students are given the basics of the scuba diving technique. Only when the instructor is comfortable that all students completely understand scuba techniques - and the reasons behind them - will you enter the pool. In some cases, equipment can also be rented for scuba diving lessons - an enormous benefit for those who are delaying the purchase of pricey equipment until they receive scuba certification.

Pool instruction during scuba diving lessons offer students the opportunity to put those classroom lessons into use, practicing techniques over and over until they are comfortable. It is essential that these systems are mastered; scuba diving can be dangerous if not done properly and with full respect of the equipment and the water.

There are scuba diving lessons that are offered for children and adults separately. Be sure to research any instructors or instruction facilities to ensure that they are reputable and experienced in training.

Upon successful completion of your scuba diving lessons you will be certified for scuba diving; and you will be well on your way to enjoying a lifetime of adventure and exploration.

Best Scuba Diving Gear

People like scuba diving for many reasons. Most want to look for interesting marine plants and animals deep in the water. Some do scuba diving for commercial, scientific, and military purposes. Scuba diving gear permits the divers to stay underwater for long periods of time. The word "scuba" is a short form for "self contained underwater breathing apparatus."

The diving activity is secure as long as you have the best scuba diving gear, and you have the proper training to operate the equipment. Owning a quality gear needs a considerable investment. But high-quality gear need not be very pricey. Sometimes, the best scuba diving gear can be bought at considerable discounted rates. You can expect quality equipment to last for years. The best equipment can guarantee your safety as well.

Generally, all scuba divers wear and use the same type of diving gear. But some divers in colder areas append extra equipment as well. A typical scuba diving gear package contains pieces such as fins, a mask, gauges, a tank, and a watch and compass. Depending on the temperature of water a wet or dry suit, a hood and gloves are also worn. The tank kept on the diver's back provides the oxygen to the diver's mask for intake when he/she is in the water. Depth and pressure gauges help the divers get information about their locations and condition.

Before purchasing the best scuba diving gear, you will need to do some research on the different brands and quality. This helps you save hundreds of dollars on scuba equipment and determine the type that suits you best

Owning the best scuba gear is a simple and easy process. There are plenty of places to go to purchase quality gear. You can buy them from the dive shops, Internet, or classified advertisements. Dive shops are the best places where you can test the gear before purchasing. It is unwise to buy scuba diving equipment which you have not seen.

Used Scuba Diving Gear

Used scuba diving gear is that gear which has been used previously by another scuba diver or scuba divers. It can be found in classified sections of newspapers, online, or posted on bulletin boards in local establishments where scuba diving is popular. You can also sometimes attain used scuba diving gear from any of a number of retailers or distributors, who will check to see that the gear is in proper working order before reselling it at a lower-than-new cost. With high-quality scuba gear, your diving experience can be so pleasant and memorable. Also, your safety is ensured. But high-quality scuba gear need not be expensive. High-quality equipment is sometimes offered at considerable discounted rates.

When looking for scuba gear, you have to be knowledgeable about the different brands and quality. You can, in fact, buy used products. Some divers utilize popular, high-quality scuba gear that has been used and is now sold with the same level of safety and protection as buying them brand new.

Except for used suits, some equipment for scuba diving is safe to reuse. These include gauges, regulators and buoyancy control devices. Buying safe used products can save you hundreds of dollars. But you have to make sure that they are still working.

There are plenty of places to go to purchase used scuba gear. You can purchase them from the Internet, classified ads or dive shops. Dive shops are usually the best place to visit, since you can check the gear before buying. It is unwise to buy anything that you have not seen.

Along Came Polly (Widescreen Edition)

Along Came Polly (Widescreen Edition)Opposites are forced to attract in Along Came Polly, a dose of featherweight fluff that could've been better and could've been worse--surely no pairing of Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston can be a complete waste of time, right? Faint praise indeed, but fans of these mainstream funny-folk will enjoy this movie as a lazy-weekend distraction. Ben's a newlywed insurance risk-assessment analyst whose wife (Debra Messing, in a throwaway role) betrays him on their honeymoon. His uptight, play-it-safe lifestyle (which includes acute aversion to germs and irritable bowel syndrome) makes him seemingly incompatible with the spontaneous, free-spirited Polly (Aniston), but writer-director John Hamburg (whose writing credits include the previous Stiller hits Meet the Parents and Zoolander) is determined to give them at least the appearance of romantic potential. No such luck. You will, however, get a few laughs from supporting players Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bryan Brown, and Alec Baldwin. --Jeff Shannon

Scuba Dive - Exploring The Underwater World

A scuba dive used to be the main method of gathering food for historic cultures and societies. But today people have gone beyond using scuba just for gathering food. Today there are many other reasons to enjoy a dive. People dive around the world in every culture. Some of the most popular reasons for modern day diving includes hobby, peace, curiosity, education, work, research, and treasure hunting.

Scuba stands for "Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus" and is when a person or people swim underwater while taking part in another activity. In scuba the other activity is usually exploring, teaching, treasure hunting, and/or learning.

Some of the best dive locations are in warm climates. These locations are often tropical or sub-tropical and can offer great diving experiences year round. However, a scuba dive can be conducted in any climate in the world. In cold climates scuba diving can be a fun adventure. Divers just need the right pieces of gear.

The right pieces of gear create a great scuba dive. Divers use a wide variety of items in the water. Some of the most important include fins, a mask, a suit, and something to aid in underwater breathing. Divers will also sometimes use a propulsion vehicle to get around faster in the water. There are so many types of equipment that are used in diving that the word scuba actually refers to the equipment that a person uses, not the act of diving.

Not only do divers need to master the use of scuba equipment, they also need to be professionally instructed and certified. Certification takes time, money, and dedication. Dive certification includes classroom education, practice in a pool, and open water practice. Certification also includes a medical test, and a series of tests, and practical applications before a diver becomes certified.

For safety reasons many divers choose to take to the water in groups or pairs. This allows for safety. They can be sure that they will have a backup in case something goes wrong on the dive with the equipment or the environment.

There are various reasons why a person might dive. Some people dive as a job and others venture underwater for fun and recreation. Scuba jobs include scientific occupations and educational occupations. Some people also hunt for underwater treasure.

Some people may also do it for recreation or while on vacation. These people still usually need to be certified, it depends on the location and country in which the divers are choosing to dive. The only exception is snorkeling. Many people will choose to snorkel if they are not certified to scuba dive. Snorkeling happens on the surface of the water. It is a fun activity that allows people of all ages to enjoy the wildlife and beauty that lies underneath the surface of the ocean.
